Malaysia Change in Service Tax Legislation

With effect from 1 July 2008, many restaurants located outside hotels, including food courts, are no longer subject to service tax. This is due to a change in legislation that requires only outlets with annual sales turnover exceeding RM3 million to collect service tax. Consequently, this can mean a 5% reduction in the cost of entertainment. Please check your bill to ensure that you are not being overcharged.
